Roof Lantern Installation in Stretton, Burton-on-Trent

Resolving a leaking flat roof window with a bespoke roof lantern installation

Location: Stretton, Staffordshire

Our customer had been experiencing ongoing leaks from an existing flat roof window that had been installed incorrectly by a previous contractor. The poor installation had resulted in water ingress caused by capillary action, leaving the homeowner frustrated after repeated problems.

Following a full inspection, our team carefully removed the existing roof window and stripped back the surrounding area to expose the original fixings. Once removed, we constructed a new timber upstand to create the correct height and falls required for a long-lasting installation.

New fibreglass upstand trims were fitted to form a tilt fillet, ensuring rainwater is directed away from the opening rather than towards it. Bandage matting was applied where the trims met the existing roof covering, with additional reinforcement to all corners to create a completely watertight seal.

To complete the project, we assembled and installed a new 1300mm x 1300mm roof lantern, securely fixing it to the new timber upstand before fitting the glazing and carrying out a full clean down.

The finished installation not only resolved the ongoing leak but also transformed the appearance of the flat roof, allowing significantly more natural light into the property while providing a durable, weatherproof solution.
